Why People Use Cargo Mats

Cargo mats are usually heavy rubberized mats that can be placed in the cargo compartment of a pickup or SUV. They have the advantage of being removable and less costly than traditional cargo liners that are custom molded to fit certain models of vehicle.

The advantages listed above are the main reasons for people to choose these. However, they do not tell why people use them in the first place.

Consider this. A person buys a brand new 30,000 dollar truck or SUV. Later, he decides to haul some furniture or building materials. Now, imagine the appearance of the truck bed or cargo compartment when these items are removed.

People use cargo mats to protect their investment in their vehicle. These mats prevent the paint being scratched or the carpet being torn as items being hauled shift around. Mats are the choice for protection when one does not expect to haul all the time or when one does not have the cash on hand to pay for a custom molded liner.

Another reason for some to choose mats is the ability to transfer them from one vehicle to another. Sometimes one may have to use an alternate vehicle to do the hauling than would normally be the case, and have a need to protect the interior just as he/she would have the planned vehicle.
